Spin for a personality trait

Spin and the wheel picks a trait, with a short line on what it looks like in a character. It’s made for writers, role-players and anyone designing an original character. There are four lists:

  • Strengths & flaws: a strength, then a flaw, all the way around the wheel.
  • Strengths: sixteen positive traits like loyal, witty and determined.
  • Flaws: sixteen flaws like stubborn, reckless and hot-headed.
  • Quirks: small habits like humming, collecting odd things or quoting movies.

Build a character in four spins

  1. Spin Strengths for their best quality.
  2. Spin Strengths again for a second one.
  3. Spin Flaws for what gets them into trouble.
  4. Spin Quirks for something memorable.

A loyal, witty, reckless character who talks to plants already has a story waiting to happen.

Tip: The most interesting characters have a flaw that clashes with a strength. Brave but anxious, or honest but secretive. Spin until you get a pair that pulls in opposite directions.

For OC and role-play

Fill out an original character in one sitting: personality here, then hair color, eye color and a superpower if they need one. For drawing ideas, the what to draw wheel has a Character (OC) ideas list.

Classroom and games

  • Creative writing: students spin a trait and write a short scene showing it, without naming it.
  • Acting game: spin a trait and act out ordering coffee in that personality.
  • Story dice, wheel style: spin three traits and invent a character around them.

Questions people ask

What does the personality wheel give me?

A personality trait plus a one-line explanation of how it shows up, like Stubborn: once their mind is made up, nothing changes it. The Quirks list gives small habits without explanations.

How do I build a whole character with it?

Spin Strengths twice and Flaws once, then add a quirk. Two strengths and a flaw make a character who is likable but still interesting.

Is this a personality test?

No. It's a random trait generator for writing, games and character design. It doesn't say anything about you.
