Spin for a random color

Pick a color set, spin, and the wheel lands on a color. The result shows the color name, its hex code and its RGB values. There are five ready-made sets:

  • Basic colors: 14 everyday colors, from red to black and white.
  • Rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.
  • Pastels: eight soft shades like mint, peach and lilac.
  • Crayon box: a dozen bright, crayon-style colors.
  • Random hex colors: 12 brand-new colors picked at random from all 16.7 million hex codes. Choose it again for another set.

A color wheel spinner and rainbow wheel

The wheel is a color wheel spinner: every slice is painted in the color it names, so you can see the pick land before the result pops up. Choose the Rainbow set for a classic rainbow wheel with seven colors in order, which young kids love for color-naming games. The other sets work the same way, from 14 basic colors to brand-new random hex shades.

Ideas for a random color generator

Art and drawing challenges. Spin two or three colors and make a drawing using only those. It’s a great cure for blank-page block and a fun class warm-up.

Design inspiration. Spin random hex colors to find unexpected pairings for a logo, a poster or a website. Copy the hex code straight into your design tool.

Outfit of the day. Let the wheel pick the color you build your outfit around.

Kids’ games. Play I Spy, run a color hunt around the house, or practice color names with toddlers using the basic set.

Team colors. Assign colors to teams, players or game pieces at random.

Decorating and crafts. Can’t choose a yarn, nail polish or paint swatch? Put the options on the wheel and spin.

Make your own color wheel

Switch the editor to the list view, tick Custom colors, and choose a color for each entry with the color picker. Name the entries however you like: paint names, brand colors, or just “Option A.” You can also import a CSV file with one color per row, such as Ocean, #0077B6.

Reading color codes

  • Hex codes like #43A047 are used in web design and most design apps. The six characters are pairs for red, green and blue.
  • RGB values like rgb(67, 160, 71) give the same color as three numbers from 0 to 255.

Both are shown with every result, so you can use the color anywhere.

Questions people ask

How do I get a completely random color?

Choose Random hex colors. The wheel fills with 12 new colors picked from all 16.7 million possible hex codes. Click it again for a fresh set.

Does the result show the color code?

Yes. Every result shows the hex code and the RGB values, so you can copy the exact color into a design tool, a paint app or CSS.

Can I use my own colors?

Yes. Switch the list to the list view and pick a color for each entry with the color picker, or type entries and choose colors one by one. You can also import a CSV with a name and a hex code on each row.

Is every color equally likely?

Yes. Every slice is the same size and has the same chance. Turn on Weights if you want some colors to come up more often.
