Spin the periodic table
Spin and the wheel picks a chemical element. The result shows its name, symbol and atomic number, like Gold: Symbol Au, atomic number 79. Use all 118 or one group at a time:
| List | Elements |
|---|---|
| All 118 | Hydrogen to oganesson |
| First 20 | Hydrogen to calcium, the ones most classes learn first |
| Noble gases | Helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon, radon, oganesson |
| Alkali metals | Lithium to francium |
| Alkaline earth metals | Beryllium to radium |
| Halogens | Fluorine to tennessine |
| Transition metals | 38 elements, from scandium to copernicium |
| Lanthanides | Lanthanum to lutetium |
| Actinides | Actinium to lawrencium |
Chemistry class activities
- Element report: each student spins an element and finds its uses, where it’s found and one surprising fact.
- Symbol quiz: spin and call out the element; students write the symbol before you reveal it.
- Find it fast: spin, and the first student to point to it on the periodic table wins.
- Element trading cards: students design a card for the element they spin.
Tip: For a symbol quiz, open Settings and turn on Keep the result hidden until I reveal it. Students write their answer, then you tap Reveal.
The elemental wheel
Not doing chemistry? The Fire, water, earth, air list is a classic elemental wheel for games, characters and fantasy stories. Five elements uses wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Pair it with the superpower wheel for an elemental hero.
