Spin for a random word
Spin and the wheel lands on a word. Use it to start a story, write a song, play a game or practice vocabulary. There are five lists:
- Nouns: river, lantern, compass, thunder.
- Verbs: whisper, wander, juggle, celebrate.
- Adjectives: sparkly, wobbly, mysterious, cozy.
- Song words: midnight, neon, wildflower, satellite.
- Pictionary: easy-to-draw words like volcano, mermaid and treasure map.
Random words for songwriting
Stuck on a lyric? Choose Song words and spin three times. Write one line that uses all three: “Neon on the highway, midnight in my head.” It doesn’t have to be good. It just has to get you started.
Tip: Spin a noun, a verb and an adjective, then write a sentence with all three. It’s a classic warm-up for writers and a fun class starter.
Word games
- One-word story: spin a word, then go around the room adding one word at a time to a story that has to include it.
- Pictionary: spin the Pictionary list and draw while your team guesses.
- Taboo-style: describe the word without saying it or any word that rhymes with it.
- Rhyme time: spin a word and list as many rhymes as you can in 30 seconds.
In the classroom
Put this week’s vocabulary list on the wheel. Spin, and a student uses the word in a sentence or acts it out. For letters instead of words, try the random letter generator. For categories, try the random category generator.
