Spin for a random object
Spin and the wheel picks an everyday item: a teapot, a yo-yo, a tape measure, a lantern. Use the full list or narrow it down:
- Around the house: lamp, alarm clock, umbrella, houseplant.
- Kitchen: whisk, toaster, rolling pin, teapot.
- School: pencil, globe, calculator, sticky notes.
- Toys: yo-yo, kite, rubber duck, slinky.
- Tools: hammer, wrench, flashlight, wheelbarrow.
- Outdoors: tent, skateboard, compass, bird feeder.
Things to do with a random item
Draw it. Objects are perfect for practicing shapes, shading and perspective. Spin one and draw it from three angles.
Scavenger hunt. Spin an item and race to find it in the house. First one back gets a point.
Improv. Spin an object and use it, or pretend to, in a scene. A rolling pin becomes a sword, a microphone, a telescope.
Describe it. Describe the item without saying its name while others guess. No pointing allowed.
Tip: Writing a story? Spin three objects and make them all appear in the first page. It’s a great cure for writer’s block.
In the classroom
- Vocabulary: spin an object and list five adjectives that describe it.
- Inventor challenge: spin two objects and design a new invention that combines them.
- Show and tell: spin, and students share something from home that fits the category.
