Pick a number between 1 and 30

Spin for a number from 1 to 30. Each one has about a 3.3% chance. Thirty is about a month of days, and a typical class size.

A random day of the month

April, June, September and November have thirty days. For those months, the number you spin is the date.

  • Plan a surprise: spin for the date of a surprise dinner or a day trip.
  • Bill reminders: can’t decide when to schedule a monthly task? Let the wheel pick and stick with it.
  • Content calendar: spin for which day of the month a post or newsletter goes out.

For other months, change To to 31, or to 28 or 29 for February.

30-day challenges

Thirty-day challenges keep things fresh when you don’t know what’s coming next. Write thirty tasks, like a new recipe, a short walk, or a page of sketching, number them, and spin each morning. Choose Remove from wheel so each task only comes up once.

Tip: Keep the challenge list next to the wheel in a note on your phone, so the number you spin always matches the same task.

Class roll call

  • Pick a student: number your class list from 1 to 30 and spin.
  • Presentation order: spin with Remove from wheel to set the order for the whole class. The Results tab has the full list.
  • Seat swap: spin for each student’s new seat number.

Fair and random

Your browser’s cryptographic random number generator picks each result before the spin. Every number gets the same slice, every time. For two weeks, try 1 to 14. For a bigger class, try 1 to 40.

Questions people ask

How do I pick a random day of the month?

Spin and the number is the date. If the month has 31 days, change To to 31 first. For February, set To to 28, or 29 in a leap year.

What are the odds of each number between 1 and 30?

Each number has a one in thirty chance, about 3.3%.

Can I run a 30-day challenge in a random order?

Yes. Number your thirty tasks, then spin once a day and choose Remove from wheel. Your progress is saved in your browser, so tomorrow's spin only picks from what's left.
