A six-sided die on a wheel
Spin and get a number from 1 to 6, exactly like rolling a standard die. Every number has the same one in six chance. Keep this page open on a phone or a tablet and you’ll never hunt for a missing die again.
Board games and dice games
- Lost die: most family board games use one or two six-sided dice. Spin once per die.
- Who starts: everyone spins, highest number goes first. Spin again to break ties.
- Classroom games: project the wheel so the whole class sees the roll.
- Tabletop RPGs: the d6 is used for damage, ability checks and random tables.
Rolling two dice
Spin twice and add the numbers. It’s tempting to set the wheel to 2 to 12 and spin once, but that gives a different game. With two real dice there are six ways to make 7 and only one way to make 2 or 12, so 7 shows up six times as often. A 2 to 12 wheel gives every total the same chance, which would throw off any game built around dice.
| Total of two dice | Ways to roll it | Chance of each |
|---|---|---|
| 2 or 12 | 1 | 2.8% |
| 3 or 11 | 2 | 5.6% |
| 4 or 10 | 3 | 8.3% |
| 5 or 9 | 4 | 11.1% |
| 6 or 8 | 5 | 13.9% |
| 7 | 6 | 16.7% |
Tip: For a quicker roll, open Settings and set the spin time to 2 seconds. The result is just as random.
Other dice
Role-playing games use a whole set of dice. Try 1 to 4 for a d4, 1 to 8 for a d8, 1 to 12 for a d12 and 1 to 20 for a d20.
